Untitled from the Virtual Peace Series, 2010, Oil and Fabric on Canvas, 150x129 cm
In his body of work, Virtual Peace, Önder Tokuç (born in 1970) questions the complicated interpretation of peace, freedom of thought and authority. Inspired by the mythology of the Wishing Tree, his work deals with social identity; mourning, war, death and hope, they all drown in his canvas. Through his paintings, his isolated inner world opens up a dialogue with his past. Anonymous crowds scream in silence in his paintings where he releases his inextricable feelings.
Working as a carpenter as a kid, he decides to follow his passion for painting when he was a teenager. He continued to paint and in 2004 he decided to create his studio/art gallery, Leleg, where he exhibits his work every year between May and October. His past exhibitions include Istanbul International Art Fair (2015, Turkey), Alif Art Young Artists Auction (2011, Turkey) and solo exhibition at Çanakkale State Fine Art Gallery (2004, Turkey).
